Modems are much more sensitive to delays and jitter than voice, and as such, present a problem and will fall back to slower rates or even disconnect when encountering network conditions that do not adversely affect voice calls. As with Voice over IP (VoIP) and Fax over IP (FoIP), there is much effort going into the creation of standards to address these challenges. An emerging Modem-over-IP (MoIP) standard will ensure robust modem services over packet-based networks. This paper discusses the issues related to MoIP, and introduces the technologies involved in creating the standard.

Formato: PDF

Organizations around the world seek to reduce rising communications costs. The consolidation of separate voice, fax, and data resources offers an opportunity for significant savings. Accordingly, the challenge of integrating voice, fax, and data is becoming a rising priority for many network managers. Organizations are pursuing solutions that will enable them to take advantage of excess capacity on broadband networks for voice, fax, and data transmission, as well as utilize the Internet and company Intranets as alternatives to costlier mediums.

This tutorial discusses the principles related to implementing real-time voice- and fax-over-packet networks. An overview of the embedded software architecture is presented, and a system is described for sending voice, fax image, data, and signaling information over the packet network. Benefits to designers and manufacturers of this embedded approach are lower cost of goods sold, faster time to market, and lower development costs. Customers can gain a considerable advantage in time to market in building their communication systems.

This tutorial references a general class of packet networks, as the modular software objects allow networks such as asynchronous transfer mode (ATM), frame relay, and Internet/intranet (Internet protocol [IP]) to transport voice and fax. Currently, the Frame Relay Forum and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) have defined protocols for transmission of fax over a packet network. However, the principles described are equally applicable to ATM networks.

Voice over Digital Subscriber Line (VoDSL)

http://www.recursosvoip.com/docs/english/voice_dsl.pdf

Fuente: International Engineering Consortium
Formato: PDF

The changes in the forces that shape the communications industry have been well documented and are nearing the level of common knowledge; examples include regulation and technology. Digital subscriber line (DSL) is the technology that is employed between a customer location and the carrier’s network that enables more bandwidth to be provided by using as much of the existing network infrastructure as possible. Speeds of up to 9 Mbps to the home are possible, given a number of limitations (e.g., distance and line quality). Using a greater range of frequencies over the existing copper line makes this increase in bandwidth possible. Voice over DSL (VoDSL) represents a breakthrough service by means of this technology.

This tutorial will explore the topic of VoDSL, emphasizing transport methods and standards groups. First, however, it provides a short history and explanation of DSL technology.

Voice over Internet Protocol

http://www.recursosvoip.com/docs/english/VOIPProtocol.pdf

Fuente: Anixter
Formato: PDF

This white paper explains Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). VoIP is a type of network convergence. Specifically, it is the unification of voice and data onto a single network infrastructure. The idea behind VoIP is converting digital and analog communications (such as phone calls and faxes) into IP packets to be sent through one network instead of a separate telephony network. The voice signals first become digitized, then are split up into information packets and then sent through an IP network.

Voice over IP (VoIP) Implementation Guide for Network Performance Management

http://www.recursosvoip.com/docs/english/NetScout-VoIP_Network_Management_Best_Practices.pdf

Fuente: NetScout Systems
Formato: PDF

The long-hyped convergence of voice and data onto a single network is finally becoming reality. Major industry magazines and analysts are now discussing the explosion of VoIP deployments, and corporate rollouts have commenced in order to take advantage of the operational efficiencies and competitive advantages that are facilitated through VoIP's advanced communication services.

However, when convergence occurs on your network, will the infrastructure be ready to handle this added burden? Almost universally, industry analysts talk about incomplete and delayed VoIP implementations caused by poor pre-deployment analysis, planning and lack of wellintegrated management tools that address both networked voice and data applications. The risks are not only the investments made in the VoIP equipment and upgraded infrastructure, but also in the potential impact on organizational productivity when a voice initiative has a negative effect on existing networked business services. The reputation of the IT organization can hinge on the success or failure of a VoIP implementation.

The solution to mitigate these risks is a lifecycle approach to VoIP deployment: assessment, planning, impact analysis, and ongoing management. Although completing each of these steps may seem, at times, overwhelming and complex, engaging a network and application performance management solution, especially one that will view VoIP in context with all other application traffic on the network, will increase the potential for a successful project.

This white paper describes how the nGenius Performance Management System can help in completing a comprehensive analysis, developing a thorough plan, and assessing the impact of your VoIP implementation. A thorough investigation of each step of the lifecycle process increases the probability of a successful rollout, and ultimately achieves optimized performance of both business and voice applications across the enterprise network.
